"Its not as if the computer gets tired doing hard work"
Thankfully, computers do not have emotions in them yet. And maybe we have some self interest in keeping things that way. Because otherwise, you will get 'robot rights' activists campaigning for better treatment of computers. If computers ever become intelligent, they may even go on strike.
The ultimate fantasy for humans would be the IBM Pollyanna Principle:
machines should work; people should think
But what if machines can start thinking too?
Movies like Matrix, have explored the concept of intelligent machines taking over humans, cultivating humans for their energy supply and providing a virtual reality to prevent an uprising.
So, the humans go about living their lives in the computer generated virtual world while the machines suck their real energy for sustenance.
Will such a world be better?
A world where there are no problems like war, poverty etc. Computer generated visual reality can give you what you want and make you happy. A world where there is no concept of 'fate'. Where you truly get what you deserve.
Computer games, I think are a step in that direction. Programs like Second Life are already providing a virtual world on the internet.

Ya, 'most of the world's major problems result from machines that fail to work, and people who fail to think'!
Again, if machines do work at all, still, people refuse to think! It further aggravates the problem.
By making machines do the work for us, we have lot of time to think.
But the problem is we are too busy of making machines do the work, that we don't have time to think!
