Mediocre, but arrogant

"This year we saved Rs 15000 by removing toilet paper in our offices and Rs 10000 by reducing 'unnecessary' expenses on employees" said an IIM grad, a new hire to the finance dept of our company at an yearly 'Meet the Management' function. And we all had to clap at the end of his talk.

Doesn't this MBA realize that his savings for the year was a mere trickle for a company of this size and the very time he was wasting talking about his 'genius', itself was costing the company more than what he saved? And then, I am sure these saving would again show up in his annual appraisal which would again give him a nice fat raise. All for nothing.

My more than 4 years of working experience has witnessed many many such instances of management stupidity. New managers suddenly coming in, throwing in their ideas learnt from management books which do not apply to my field.

Sales managers trying to make a quick buck by promising the world to the client:

"We can throw as many engineers as we want at a problem and get the solution done" - Was the quote that one of the clients remembered from a sales manager who won a project for my previous employer but which ended by getting scrapped because of under-estimation of the project costing the company a loss of millions of dollars.

This sales manager clearly had no idea about Software engineering.

"Dude, you can't get a baby out of 9 healthy ladies in one month!!!"

If they are stupid with people, why do you need to be an MBA to become a manager then? After all, the decisions making skills are based on common sense and logic.

Being an MBA does not make you a good leader. It only imparts certain skills like Financial Administration or Organizational Administration.

I hope people realize this sooner and relieve us of their tyranny.
